EFT for Individuals

Individual therapy focuses on your personal emotional world and the challenges you are facing. These may include anxiety, depression, shame, grief, trauma, self-criticism, life transitions, or difficulties in relationships.

EFT understands that emotional pain develops for understandable reasons. Often, it reflects earlier experiences where needs were not met, emotions were not safely received, or vulnerability had to be hidden. Therapy offers a space where these experiences can be approached with safety, structure, and compassion.

Understanding Emotional Patterns

Many people experience feeling stuck in repeating emotional patterns. You may struggle with an inner critical voice that feels harsh and relentless. You may withdraw when emotions become intense, or become overwhelmed by anxiety, shame, or self-doubt. These reactions are often protective. At some point, they helped you cope.

In therapy, we gently slow these patterns down and explore what lies underneath them. Protective reactions such as anger, avoidance, perfectionism, or emotional numbing often cover more vulnerable emotions such as sadness, fear, loneliness, or longing for reassurance. When these deeper emotions are experienced and understood in the presence of a compassionate therapist, they begin to shift.

Working Directly With Emotional Experience

EFT is experiential, meaning that we do not only talk about emotions, we work with them to feel them as they arise in the present moment. This allows new emotional experiences to take place, and helps you feel different rather than only gaining intellectual insight.

Chair work is one of the methods that may be used. Different parts of yourself, for example a self-critical part and a vulnerable part, are given space and voice. This can reduce inner conflict and strengthen self-compassion. Chair work may also be used to process unresolved relationships, allowing unspoken emotions to be expressed in a structured and supported way.

Strengthening Emotional Regulation

A central part of the work is strengthening your ability to regulate emotions. This includes being able to automatically soothe yourself during distress, remain present with strong feelings without becoming overwhelmed, and respond to yourself with greater kindness.

Over time, therapy helps you feel more emotionally balanced, more secure in yourself, and more confident in your relationships with others.
